Safewater / For Hiroko
Man, I hate losing track of people. Don't you? When you move around as much as I have, it happens. Others move around, too. When everyone you know is in constant motion, no matter how much you try to stay in touch, it happens; good people that you know just go -- *POOF* -- out of your life. I've had great luck using Google to find people that disappeared decades ago, but some folks are just harder to find than others, especially if they've somehow managed to not leave behind any network presence.
Hiroko is one such person. The wife of an old friend -- now an ex-wife. We had many a good time together and then they got divorced, he went low profile and she disappeared completely.
Anyway, this song is for Hiroko. This is an update of a song I first did in 1987, on an old Mac, using some software I had at the time called "Deluxe Music Construction Set" or something like that. It was kind of funky, but it was state of the art at that time. I used to play this song for my friends and Hiroko would totally zone out to some far off place. It's not a long or what I would call a trance piece, but it put her into a trance. It was the only thing I ever witnessed that made her totally ignore her, then, two year old child for one minute and 40 seconds. After it ended, she would still look like she was in some far away place for another five seconds or so, then she would giggle and ask, "Where was I?"
So I found that old recording recently and figured out I could remake it with Reason 2.5 and LIVE. I don't know what she would say, but I think this version is better. Anyway, if you find this, Hiroko, it's for you.
